Eyelid trauma

How can laser eye surgeries damage the eyelids?

There are some cases reported of the speculum, which is used to hold the eyelids open during surgery, stretching and injuring the eyelids.

What are the potential results to the patient?

Eyelid trauma from the speculum may cause ptosis (droopy eyelid) and may interfere with proper blinking mechanisms, resulting in dry eye symptoms.

How can it be treated?

There are oculo-plastic surgeries which can be done for ptosis or other such conditions. Consult an ophthalmologist for details.
