Tarsorrhaphy FAQ

What is tarsorrhaphy?

Tarsorrhaphy is a rare procedure where the eyelids are partially sewn together to narrow the opening.

When is it a suitable treatment?

Tarsorrhaphy is most likely to be used in patients who cannot close their eyelids all the way (due for example to eyelid muscle weakness) and therefore have extremely vulnerable eye surfaces. In extreme cases it may be used in severe dry eye patients.
