What is blepharitis? (Posted: 3 dec 2004)
Blepharitis is a chronic inflammation of the eyelids.
Symptoms of blepharitis may include red, swollen eyelids; dry eyes or eye pain; and crusting around the eyelids/lashes on waking.
My eyelids don't look red. Can I still have blepharitis? (posted: 3 dec 2004)
It's possible. Blepharitis is a very common condition and can occur in such mild forms that you don't notice it.
How does blepharitis affect my dry eye? (posted: 3 dec 2004)
Blepharitis can result in blockage of the meibomian glands, which will reduce the lipid (oily) layer of the tear film, resulting in excessive evaporative loss and dry eye symptoms.
How is blepharitis treated? (posted: 3 dec 2004)
Warm compresses and lid scrubs. See the lid therapy treatment pages.
