Visual axis

IN BRIEF

The imaginary pathway connecting between what you are looking at and the fovea (center of the retina).  The visual axis corresponds to the center of the cornea, lens, and retina.

DISCUSSION

The visual axis is distinct from the centre of the pupil. There is some discussion in laser eye surgery as to which is the best reference point for centering a laser eye surgery, particularly in hyperopes and high myopes.
