Undercorrection

IN BRIEF

When the laser undershoots, i.e. removes too little tissue.

DISCUSSION

A patient who is undercorrected will have residual refractive error, that is, s/he will still have a glasses or contact lens prescription because the laser has not brought their refractive error to zero.

Undercorrection should not be confused with regression, where the target refractive error is achieved but the patient's vision later slides back towards the original prescription.

Patients who experience undercorrection have three choices: If it is a small amount, they may choose to do nothing about it. If it is a noticeable amount, they may get glasses or contact lenses, or opt for more surgery. For further information about more surgery, see enhancements.
