A complication of LASIK associated with use of the Intralase femtosecond laser to cut the flap, where severe photophobia (light sensitivity) sets in approximately two months after surgery and reportedly usually resolves within a few months.

 
DISCUSSION

This syndrome is known by several different names, some of which are listed above.

It is unclear what causes the syndrome, how often it occurs or how quickly it normally resolves. Reports have indicated anywhere from less than 1% to as many as 20% of patients. It reportedly responds to steroid treatment.
