Regression

IN BRIEF

When vision drifts back towards the original prescription after laser eye surgery.

DISCUSSION

It is not uncommon to see some regression in the early post-operative period after laser eye surgery. However, some patients regress weeks, months or years after surgery or slowly regress for a prolonged period.

Regression is more common in high or unusual prescriptions, including hyperopia, very high myopia, high astigmatism or mixed astigmatism.

Regression should not be confused with undercorrection, which is an immediately apparent failure of the laser treatment to achieve the full correction.
