Pupil

IN BRIEF

Round black thing in the middle of the coloured part of your eye.

DISCUSSION

The pupil is an opening in the iris which lets light through. It adjusts its size as needed depending on lighting conditions and other factors.

The pupil is very important to laser eye surgery. Most importantly, it needs to be measured accurately in dim light conditions in order to determine the most beneficial treatment profile and the patient's relative risks of suffering night vision disturbances after surgery.
