Irregular astigmatism

IN BRIEF

Irregular patterns or variations of curvature, elevation and dioptric power in the cornea.

DISCUSSION

Irregular astigmatism can be a complication of laser eye surgery associated with ablation defects or other complications. Unlike regular astigmatism, irregular astigmatism cannot be treated with glasses and there is currently no reliable surgical treatment for it either. However, gas permeable contact lenses are usually effective at suppressing these irregularities.
