Some myopic patients are undercorrected in one eye only, resulting in anisometropia (imbalance) which gives the patient the same effect s/he would have had with a deliberate monovision correction - that is, where one eye is deliberately left undercorrected in order to use it for near vision (in presbyopic patients). For a patient who does not desire or need or cannot tolerate monovision, this can be a real problem as depending on the imbalance they may need to wear contact lenses or undergo further surgery in order to achieve acceptable vision.
Induced monovision can also occur in a hyperope who is overcorrected in one eye. |
