Epithelial defect

IN BRIEF

An intra-operative complication where the epithelium suffers trauma during LASIK. This can be caused by abrasions from the microkeratome.

DISCUSSION

Patients with loose epithelium are much more likely to experience epithelial defects and this is one of the reasons they should not have LASIK.
