Bandage lens

IN BRIEF

A soft contact lens used to temporarily protect the cornea and allow it to heal.

DISCUSSION

A soft contact lens is used after laser eye surgery in some cases to protect the cornea. This may be a routine part of treatment in surface ablation techniques such as PRK, or it may be optional and used only if needed in LASIK.

Soft contact lenses are also used sometimes therapeutically with severe dry eye patients. If a patient experiences an erosion or abrasion, or recurrent corneal erosions, they may benefit from temporary use of a bandage lens.
