ASA is a handy abbreviation for any or all of the surface ablation techniques (i.e. surgeries which do not cut a flap of stroma) if a wavefront-guided ablation profile is used. As such, ASA refers to a subset of what is more broadly described as "wavefront-guided procedures" (the latter includes LASIK).
Several industry pioneers feel that ASA provides superior results compared with LASIK, however, LASIK remains the consumer king because of the strong appeal its convenience factor holds for doctors and patients alike. |
