Astigmatic Keratotomy (AK)

IN BRIEF

RK (radial keratotomy) but specifically for astigmatism.

DISCUSSION

AK, like RK, uses incisions in the cornea to "relax" the cornea, thereby reshaping it to reduce or eliminate astigmatism. AK (or a related form of surgery, limbal relaxing incisions) is done relatively commonly after cataract surgery and occasionally after laser eye surgery if astigmatism has been induced or existing astigmatism has not been eliminated.
