20/happy

IN BRIEF

Expression sometimes used to describe patients of laser vision correction who have not achieved the expected results but are satisfied because their perceived vision needs or expectations are met.

DISCUSSION

20/happy is most typically used to describe patients:

(a) who have not achieved the surgical goal in terms of visual acuity, see less than 20/20 UCVA and may have experienced a loss of BCVA, but do not wear corrective lenses anymore and that accomplishment is sufficient for them to be satisfied with their results; or

(b) have achieved an acceptable level of visual acuity but which was accompanied by a significant loss of vision quality which they view as an acceptable tradeoff for improved visual acuity.
